  1. Silver halide film was quite popular in the past century for taking photographs. With the advent of digital cameras, film is now mainly used in large formats (greater than 35 mm) and scanned on a flatbed or drum scanner in order to make it available for digital consumption or printing at high resolution.

  2. Before the development of Computer to Plate (CTP), artwork that was to be printed needed to be captured on photographic film in order to be transferred to 4 color plates for offset printing.
