Grayscale or Greyscale

An achromatic scale ranging from black through a series of successively lighter grays to white. These steps may appear to be equally distant from one another (such as the Munsell Value Scale), or they may be arranged according to some other criteria such as a geometric progression based on lightness. Such scales may be used to describe the relative amount of difference between two similar colors.
